Dylan's had a creative use of words. He stressed the importance of words and was the only one to do this, i feel, successfully.
Ellery's was very colorful and fun....well....the drawings were done clean and lighthearted, but the content was that of destroying a tree, not so fun. It was cute.
Andrea's was the life of a twig. Her images moved smoothly because there wasn't a lot of change from slide to slide, i liked this.
Gina's puppet was superb. The ability and time it must have taken to recreate the puppet so accurately was astounding. The story was the shortest, but it was smooth and clear.
Cheryl's represented a dream world, almost as though she was Dahli, but as an animation.
Maria's was very different, looked like an old movie, using the images of the kids walking. Would have loved to had it taken to the next step and had her color the slides.
Lea's was very fun and interesting to watch the orb transform from tree twister, to tree, to boat.
Brian's was creative with the bleeding heart motif, interesting idea/take on a relationship.
Kasey's ant story was prolly my favorite, watching it collect the pieces. The story was cute too.
Mike's was like mine, having someone escape from the page, fun!
Jessica's seemed backwards, full page drawings must have taken forever, it was cool idea and story, loved it.
Cara's was weird...a storm of stoves and then it falls on her head...

A Clockwork Orange - "Singing in the Rain"
This scene from "A Clockwork Orange" is pretty disturbing. I didn't watch the entire rape, the web videos stop when he starts to cut her shirt. I get the idea though. Obviously in the original version, he's joyously in love with the girl.
I think in this scene, he's obviously a twisted guy and is mentally confused. It's not weird that he would sing that song, as his character probably doesn't have much culture to him, and might have only remembered that song at the moment. Also, the juxtaposition of violence and rape alongside a song like "Singing in the Rain" is interesting. The viewer is confused because they want to feel happy and think positive when they hear that song, but the action of rape and destruction of life and morality shatter those initial feelings and the viewer is left feeling torn. The actor does a great job at making the viewers think he is crazy. Singing so easily makes it look like what he is doing is effortless, when really it could be just an avenue his character is taking to relieve pain from a bad experience he had.

Time Well Spent?
So, we had to type this paper. The assignment: Watch an Opera and talk about how I would retell the story using modern technology. I chose to tell the story as a musical but fully CGI. Computer Generated Images is what that stands for and many video games, like Final Fantasy seen below, utilize them to show scenes in great detail, that today, almost look real.

Second Class - Opera OVERLOAD!!
Today in class was different. We spent a lot of time watching clips from different operas and movies with opera in them. My favorite was definitely the final opera, The Magic Flute. That opera sounded very farmiliar and i loved the way the woman's voice goes up and down the notes just hitting each one, not extending the notes. It was cool to see the crazy fireworks in Vatel and how they used pyrotechnics back then.
For my paper i will probably watch La Boheme.
It sounds like a good one to watch, and I have seen Rent on Broadway in NYC, and I really liked it, so I think I will like this opera!
PS. I lost my homework folder and need to find it, i'm lost without it.
PPS. I watched the movie Julie and Julia last night and loved it, totally made me want to BLOG BLOG BLOG!!!!

First Day of Class
Today was the first day of class. The teacher, my academic advisor Santiago, seems pretty funny and smart. I enjoyed the excerpt from the movie he showed us and thought the guy had an amazing voice. It kinda reminded me of the opera from the movie, The Fifth Element, when the BLUE lady sings during the fight scene, it was fierce.
Definition I learned today...
"FORESKIN"
read it, lol...not quite Santi, but close :)
